General Discussion / the pros know

the motivating factor to move to Maine was a simple one THE FISHING!

for the fisherman among you folks the Major League fishing event (on tv) kicked off January with the event up in Maine! THE BELGRADE LAKES - i have been fishing these lakes for many years. IT IS ONE OF THE BEST areas to fish up north for largemouth - smallmouth and GIAGANTIC pike!

If you are looking for a great FAMILY Vacation and some dandy fishing Whisperwood Lodge & Cottages on Salmon Lake is the place to be  and is also only 5 mins from where the Major League fishing events took place!
Messalonskee Lake & Great Pond

also on you-tube filmed at whisperwood

The Reel Deal in Maine 2011 Part 2

if you need any info just let me know (LOL) or come up for a visit and we can all go over to the area (45 mins from my house)

General Discussion / the best of the best fish this area of maine!!

The biggest names in fishing, and the roughly 100-person-strong television production team that follows their every move and later broadcasts the action on national cable and network television, plied the waters of central Maine for bass over the last several days.

Major League Fishing brought 30 of the nation’s elite competitive anglers to the area to fish Long Pond, Great Pond, Messalonskee Lake and China Lake. However, in the league’s unique format, none of the anglers knew what bodies of water they were fishing until the morning of each fishing day, so they wouldn’t have time to research the best places to fish.

The several days of competition were recorded by television crews for broadcast beginning in January, when they will make up the next season of Major League Fishing, a program broadcast on the Outdoor Channel cable station; and the championships probably will be shown on network television, as the previous two championships were shown on CBS, officials said.

Home from 10 days in the north country and looking forward to next year already! As always the staff was great and our hosts TERRIFIC! Whisperwood is one of those places where nothing changes much (and that is just a wonderful thing)! Certainly for us it is a home away from home! We meet some great folks and enjoyed seeing the kids involved with the outdoors and the rewards being on a lake during the summer can bring! Mike as always was a ball of energy keeping the tournament going and making sure we all were HAPPY CAMPERS!

WHISPERWOOD is a paradise on earth! 8)

General Discussion / Memorial Day - from facebook post and album
« on: May 29, 2013, 08:55:39 PM »
well as the (WHISPERWOOD FB page) album will show we caught some Dandy fish!

Day 1 Friday 24th ;)
arrived for breakfast and hit the water - JUST one of the best days we ever had on the lake CALM like glass - sprinkles and over cast! caught large mouth - small mouth and a couple of trout! Andrew caught another BIG girl that day 6.5 BUT rain and camera problems kept the picture from coming out (and i am not lying (LOL)) - by 4pm the beautiful day turned ugly temp went from 64 to 46 in a matter of seconds and THEN came the rains!

Day 2 Saturday 25th :P
after listening to HEAVY RAIN and HOWLING WINDS all night we awake to temps with the wind chill of around 31 degrees steady winds at 35 MPH with gusts at around 45 and HEAVY RAIN and SLEET! -- NO FISHING TODAY!!! and CERTAINLY NO PLACE TO BE for a fair weather fisherman! (LOL)

Day 3 Sunday 26th :D
another banner day on the lake i started at 5 am and hit some BIG fish after breakfast Andrew and i fished all day and after dinner into the night! -- was a great day with at least 50 to 60 fish caught!

Day 4 Mon  8)
slept in and then went fishing with MIKE G! for the PIKE had a great day! the fishing was slow BUT THE GOOD COMPANY MADE UP FOR IT! - after dinner we went back out and fished well into the night - we found a lot of may fly hatches and threw TINY poppers in to the middle FISHED them very slow with NO POP! the object to mimic small bait fish sucking in flys and where they are doing that - the big ones are below them ready to suck them in!

IT WORKED we had a great night of top water (BUT ONLY where there were may flies)! - and it wouldn't be a Memorial Day trip with out some BIG OLE CRAPPIES my best 15.5 inches andrew a 15 incher FUN - FUN - FUN!

was a great trip as always great food - great fishing and weather conditions that test your skills AND OUR HOSTS SIMPLY OUT STANDING

i always LOVE A LOST DAY due to weather -- SATURDAY hanging with the weather was the best - the wild NORTH COUNTRY at its best!!! ;)

yellow perch
white perch
and a whole bunch of Pickerel!

"With every trip I collect new momentos, though few are collected in scrapbooks. And all who fish for bass across the land collect them too. They are the images from first light to last and from first fish to last. And we'd share them in a minute. Some recall particular triumphs, often preserved in snapshots and clippings, while others we tend to hide, at least until we're ready to laugh about them. Daybreak, canebreaks, heartbreaks, muggy nights and foggy mornings. A hundred things that worked, and a thousand more that should have. That's bass fishing."
