Day 1 fishing report:  On a beautiful Thursday afternoon, May 16th, Whisperwood kicked off their tournament season for 2013.  The May weather has cooperated with water temperatures in the low 60's and the bass should be in pre spawn mode and soon looking to begin their spawning season.  Judy and Al started their season with over 100 bass in their annual spring visit to Whisperwood and continued strong with the early lead landing a 17" smallmouth bass and an impressive 20" largemouth, however, past history tells us an early lead in the Whisperwood fishing tournament rarely results in a final victory.  With more nice weather forecast and more tournament anglers raring to get started, we will see how it all ends. Stay tuned for the Day 2 report tomorrow evening.

Day 2 fishing report: Friday's sustained winds of 20 mph certainly changed things for the Whisperwood anglers, however, it did not prevent them from chasing bass during these tough conditions.  The afternoon bite was challenging however, fish were caught but no change in the lead - Judy's 17" smallmouth bass and Al's 20" largemouth bass are the leaders heading into day 3.  Stay tuned for Saturday's results and the weather looks good, lighter wiinds and partly sunny - more anglers should be joining the tournament.

Al and Judy are headed home early Saturday morning and their week of catching over 200 bass was something special - keep this in mind when the bite gets tough - the fish are here, but sometimes they just seem to disappear for a while!

Day 3 fishing report: What a difference a day makes!  With sunny skies and light breezes, less than 5 mph, Saturday morning and early afternoon proved to be a fisherman's delight with big fish willing to bite.  With the bright and warming sun, the water temperature in the coves rose to the mid 60's and there were plenty of bass looking for the comfort of this warm water.  Three more anglers joined the tournament and John Ackerman got on the board quickly with his tournament leading 20.5" largemouth bass. Whisperwood Mike had a big day with 3 & 4 pounders plentiful and even though his 4.5 lb. 19" largemouth fell short of the leader board, his 17.5" smallmouth captured the lead in the smallmouth category.

As usual weather is a determining factor and let's see what happens on the final Sunday to determine the May 2013 Whisperwood tournament champions.

Day 4 and final day fishing report:  With cool damp weather and overcast skies, the 2013 May Whisperwood fishing tournament ended without fanfare or leader change.  Congratulations to John Ackerman for winning the largemouth bass division with his impressive 5 pound, 20.5 inch bass he caught on his first tournament day and to Whisperwood Mike for winning the smallmouth bass division with his 17.5 inch scrappy bass.
