Champions Tournament Results- August 2013
« on: August 28, 2013, 02:49:25 PM »
The first Whisperwood Champions Tournament was held Saturday & Sunday, August 24 & 25 and the special attraction about this tournament was each of the 5 team boats had a previous Whisperwood Bass Champion on board.  All excellent fishermen and fisherwoman that know both Salmon and McGrath lakes.

The format was a two fish total: longest largemouth & longest smallmouth bass combined would be the winner.  Here is a listing of the 5 teams:  * denotes former Whisperwood tournament winner

Team Shackett:         Ned* & Adam Shackett

Team Soll:                 Mark Soll, Ken Vaughans & Bob Connelly*
Team Ackerman:        John Ackerman* and Tom Connors

Team Kana:                Arnie and Rachel* Kana

Team Whisperwood:    Whisperwood Mike*

As usual, the competition was intense with each boat looking to catch some big bass and declare victory.  History dictates these Whisperwood Bass Tournaments have turns and twists and always provide excitement to the very end and sure enough the Champions tournament did not disappoint.

DAY1: Saturday, August 24
Team Shackett shot out to an early lead with Adam's powerful 17.5" jumping smallmouth and Dad Ned adding an 18.5" largemouth to take a commanding lead over all the other competitors.  Their 36 inch total was looking unbeatable going into Sunday.

DAY2: Sunday, August 25
Team Soll however, had other ideas and Mark Soll landed two big smallies, one an 18 incher when combined with their 16 inch largemouth had a 34 inch total and right back in the tournament.

Team Whisperwood added an impressive 17.5" smallie by Sunday afternoon along with a 15 inch largemouth for a 32.5 inch total and well within striking range of the leaders.

It would all come down to the after dinner bite Sunday night.  Adam from Team Shackett battled with a feisty 4.5 pound largemouth but this big fat bass measured only 18.5 inches and could not increase their total length.  Team Soll could not increase their length this evening, but Team Whisperwood hooked into a jumping 19 inch largemouth at about 7 pm that upped their total to 36.5 inches.

Another photo finish for a Whisperwood Bass fishing tournament.

Final Results:

1.) Team Whisperwood -  36.5 inches

2.) Team Shackett -          36.0 inches

3.) Team Soll -                   34.0 inches

Thanks to all the anglers for an exciting and competitive bass fishing tournament at Whisperwood.
